Year 3 take a walk in Roald Dahl’s Shoes

8th February 2019Keble Office

During Year 3’s visit to Great Missenden they looked inside his writing shed to see the things which gave him inspiration for his writing and found some of the buildings in the village of Great Missenden which he used as settings in his stories.

They also looked at how he edited and changed his writing. He wrote the story which we now know as Matilda and decided that he was not happy with it and rewrote the whole story again. He wrote his stories by hand and some of them took up to two years to write.

Before settling on the title for the story which we now know as James and the Giant Peach, Roald almost called it James and the Giant Cherry!

They all had a great day.

BETT Exhibition

1st February 2019Keble Office

Last Friday I made my annual visit to the Bett Exhibition at the Excel Centre. It is a huge exhibition that takes up the whole of the ExCel Centre. It is the biggest exhibition of technology for education in Europe and visitors come from all areas of Europe to see what the is latest technology available to help schools.

I took with me four of our Y8 boys who have over the years shown a real interest in programming and robotics. We had an amazing day. The main trends at this year’s show were robotics and physical programming.  Sam Labs had a large stand and we stopped by to catch up with Joachim Horn the inventor. The boys had met him last year when they presented and he was keen to catch up. The stand was a huge success and as Keble has helped them develop their product we had a very warm welcome as always.

This year we also met Moises Pacheco the Danish inventor of the Fable robot we have been using in the senior school. He was so taken with the boys and their descriptions of their lessons with Fable he has asked if he can visit the school on his next visit to    London and collaborate with us in future.

This was exciting news for myself and my four techie Y8s. We were over the moon on our way back to school !

Cheese Appreciation Club

1st February 2019Keble Office

Once again, Keble’s Cheese Appreciation Club is up and running. After sampling mature Cheddar cheese last week, this Thursday the select tasting panel of Year 5 and Year 6 boys sampled a range of European hard cheeses. Our favourite was Norwegian Jarlsberg. Unfortunately, the least favourite – voted unanimously by all ten boys – was Swiss Emmental. The German smoked cheese was loved and loathed in equal measure. Many of us were left grimacing and reaching for a glass of water, others incomprehensibly enjoyed it! Next week French cheese…

NSPCC: Speak Out, Stay Safe!

23rd January 2019Keble Office

On Monday Keble welcomed the NSPCC into school to speak to the boys about keeping themselves safe. The Speak out. Stay safe. program was extremely well run for each of the different age groups of boys and gave them increased knowledge about keeping themselves safe and also where to turn if they felt worried about anything. We are also pleased to be supporting the NSPCC with their work by holding a sponsored Day of Dance on Friday 1st February. All information about this event has been emailed and all of the boys have been given a sponsor form for them collect money for a fantastic cause. Last time we ran a sponsored event for the NSPCC we raised a huge amount to help with their work, we are hoping that we can equal or better this on the 1st February. Thank you in advance for your support of this very important charity.                                                                 Mr Turner

Year 6 Tag Rugby at the HAC

23rd January 2019Keble Office

On Friday 18th January, 10 Year Six boys took part in the London Skolars Tag Rugby League competition at the Honorable Artillery Company in the City. It was a great opportunity for the boys to navigate their way into London like commuters, visit the working Army base in the heart of London and also play Tag Rugby against a range of schools from across London. The boys had a fantastic day, winning the majority of their matches but unfortunately we lost out very narrowly to the two schools who eventually fought it out in the final which meant we finished 3rd. It was a great experience for the boys which they thoroughly enjoyed.

A peep into the mind of Macbeth, with Year 7

18th January 2019Keble Office

Yesterday we were lucky enough to see a performance of ‘Macbeth’ at the Barbican theatre. This was a modern dramatisation starring Christopher Eccleston in the leading role which certainly gripped me and I am sure will have benefited the boys enormously. Thank you to Mr Zarif and Mrs Wicks for giving up their time to accompany me on the trip.

Colts and U13 Cross Country at York House

15th January 2019Keble Office

Colts and U13 Cross Country

Well done to all of the boys who took part in the York House Cross Country on Monday. On a bitterly cold day the boys ran well within a very strong field with the entire field finishing very closely. The top 4 for Keble at U11 were S. Louca, J. Wightman, L. Hayward and J. Richards- all of these boys are in Year 5 and performed well when racing against a field that was made up of many Year 6 boys. The U13 boys found the course tough but worked hard, the top 4 finishers for the U13 were R, White, A. Sowler, M. Opong and Z. Beg.

We look forward to the Keble Cross Country and Lyndhurst Cross Country later in the term.

The Jolly Reception Postmen!

4th December 2018Keble Office

On Monday, Reception Class visited the Postal Museum in Farringdon. The boys had a wonderful day exploring how the post office collect, sort and deliver their mail and even got the opportunity to experience travelling on the Royal Mail train. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the Jolly Postman Christmas workshop whereby they all became Jolly Postmen and jumped inside the story to act out the plot. The boys loved exploring the postal exhibits and had a wonderful time playing in the postal play area dressing up as postmen and developing their own narratives. A huge thank you to all of the Reception parents who supported with the trip.
