World Book Day At Keble

World Book Day At Keble

The Junior School celebrated World Book Day from home this year but that didn’t stop the boys from enjoying the day and producing some marvellous work.

Reception enjoyed reading their books together.

Year 1 made a mini zigzag book of their favourite bedtime story. They picked the bits they enjoyed the most to include in their books. They were really fun to read.

Year 2 designed book covers for their chosen bedtime stories and they had to guess what their stories were about by looking at the designs. They designed character bookmarks in the style of the author and illustrator Rob Biddulph, made reading crowns and cosy reading dens.

Year 3 designed a poster to either encourage people to read Roald Dahl books or visit the Roald Dahl museum. They also created bedroom designs for their favourite book character.

Year 4’s set text this term is The Butterfly Lion. For World Book Day, boys wrote a biographical account about Michael Morpurgo’s life. They also created a little book of puns which had us groaning and laughing at the same time!

Superpowers at the Ready – Red Nose Day – Funny is Power

Dear Parents,

If we’ve learnt one thing in the last 12 months, it’s that life is unpredictable. One thing we can always rely on though is the power of laughter.

It can change things. It can connect us. It can be the difference.

That’s why on Friday 19th March, we need you to help change the world with the power of funny.

The boys will have the chance to ditch their uniform and don a superhero costume, superhero mask or to wear something red for the day.

In PSHE, boys in Year 4 made cards to show their appreciation of the young carers in Enfield. 16th March 2021 is Young Carers Action Day. These are some of the boys’ wonderful examples. We are sure the young carers will be delighted to receive these cards.

World Book Day: Thursday 4th March

Our theme for this year is ‘Bedtime Stories’.

All boys from Reception through to Year 6 are invited to join their meetings/lessons wearing their favourite, snuggly bedtime clothing (pyjamas and ‘onesies’ are both acceptable).

Junior School boys (Reception to Year 4) should also bring a favourite ‘Bedtime’ storybook and their favourite bedtime cuddly toy; these will be used as part of the literacy-based activities taking place during the course of the day.

To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of reading at home and school, we will be running a sponsored read, for all boys from Reception through to Year 8, between Monday 1st March and Sunday 7th March. The project is being organised in conjunction with our local Usborne Organiser, Anne Croxford, and all the money raised will go towards brand new books for our school. Please find attached a video from Anne giving further information about this event.

We look forward to celebrating this special day and know that the boys will have a great deal of fun!

Returning to School

This has been a very uncertain time for all of us: children and adults.We are all having to learn how to manage anxiety and many will need support with this.
Following news of our return on the 8th March, the teachers are busy planning activities that will help the children to process what has happened during the last year and to deal with their feelings and worries. There will be a focus on well-being activities during PSHE and form times.
With this in mind, we attach this very helpful video from a senior psychologist at the specialist Maudsley Clinic.

It is aimed at parents and designed to give helpful tips on preparing your child for a return to school. We hope that it is helpful. Please watch and try to ignore the accompanying music!

Kindness School of the Year 2021

Keble Prep Winner of Kindest School of the Year 2021 Award

We are delighted to announce that Keble Prep has been named Kindness School of the Year 2021. This accreditation is in recognition of how Keble has promoted kindness, not just on World Kindness Day, but throughout the year.

During this past year we have all needed kindness more than ever before. We held our Kindness Week back in November, linking it to our PSHE lessons, focusing on mental health and wellbeing, and supporting anti-bullying week.

Keble’s parents, boys, and staff rose to the occasion to fully support our fundraising efforts. This made it possible to support charities during the most challenging of times.

Finally, Mr. Gill’s inspirational assemblies promoting kindness and the impact it can have on our daily lives are a continual reminder of the difference a little kindness can make.

Year 5 Quizzes created in Scratch

This half term Year 5 have been developing their programming skills. We have been focusing on selection and conditions. The boys have created some quizzes to test out their understanding of these two concepts. Please see just a few examples of the boys’ work below. They worked really hard even though it is lockdown, and were a real pleasure to work with. I am really impressed by how well they picked up selection and conditions. As the Quizzes are pulling from Scratch it will take a few minutes to fully load.
